Medical Assistant

Good Careers Academy Medical Assistant Student in Lab


At the conclusion of this program you will be proficient in front office administration procedures, medical law and ethics, diagnostic equipment, anatomy and physiology, CPR and First Aid, injections, pharmacology, EKG, urinalysis, hematology and microbiology.

Upon successful course completion, you will receive CPR and First Aid certification, a Certificate of Completion and be prepared for entry-level employment in a clinical/medical health facility. Additionally, you may be eligible to test for the Registered Medical Assistant national certification exam.

 

Career Path:  Medical Assistant  > Licensed Practical Nurse  >  Registered Nurse

According to the Texas Workforce Commission, entry-level Medical Assistants have the potential to earn an average annual salary of $31,000, with a projected job opening growth rate of 19%, significantly higher than the rate across industries. With additional training and experience, a Medical Assistant can advance to a Registered Nurse position with an average earning potential of $72,00 annually, according to the  SA Works Job Report: COVID-19 Edition.

Nurse's Aide

In this program, you will learn basic anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, infection control, safety and emergency procedures, patients’ rights, medical law, ethical treatment, and patient care. The program can be a stepping stone toward a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or a Registered Nurse (RN).

Upon successful course completion, you will receive CPR and First Aid certification, a Certificate of Completion and be prepared for entry-level employment in a medical facility. Additionally, you may be eligible to test for the State of Texas Nurse Aide certification exam.

Pharmacy Technician

Pharm Tech


In this program, you will learn about fundamentals of emergencies, safety and hazardous materials, infection control, trade and generic medications, pharmacy law, and record keeping. Additionally, you will participate in an externship during the course, applying the skills you have learned.

Upon successful course completion, you will receive a Certificate of Completion and be prepared for entry-level employment in a retail, hospital, or institutional setting. Additionally, you will be eligible for the State Board of Pharmacy exam.

The program is offered in-person or online. 

Career Path: 

A Pharmacy Technician can pursue areas of specialty to include compounding, chemo therapy drugs, or hazardous drugs. Through additional education and training a Pharmacy Technician can become a pharmacist. According to the Texas Workforce Commission, Pharmacy Technicians have the potential to earn an average annual salary of $36,000.

Commercial Driver License (CDL)

Earn your CDL in a few short weeks


In this program you will receive instruction needed to obtain a Texas Commercial Driver License, including preparation for a written and hands-on pre-trip inspection, writing and driving exam. Additionally, you will have hands-on experience with over-the-road driving, blind side parallel and alley parking, coupling/uncoupling and much more.

Upon successful course completion, you will receive a Certificate of Completion and may be eligible to test for the State of Texas Class A CDL license.

You may enroll in either the week day program or the weekend program. 

Career Path: 

According to the SA Works Job Report: COVID-19 Edition, Commercial Truck Driving is the top in-demand occupation in San Antonio with over 1,000 positions hired monthly. Entry level truck drivers have the potential to earn an average annual salary of $40,000.

Administrative Professional with Microsoft Word

Admin Prof.

In this program, you will learn about fundamentals of administrative functions in an office setting such as financial functions, project management, event planning, etc. This course also includes Microsoft Word certification training where you will learn to create, edit, format and print Microsoft Word documents. You will move on to more advanced formatting skills and apply the skills you have learned.

Upon successful course completion, you will receive a Certificate of Completion and vouchers to sit for the Certified Administrative Professional (CAP) exam and the Microsoft Office Specialist Expert certification exam for Word. 

The program is offered online. 

Career Path: 

An Administrative Professional can pursue areas of specialty to include accounts payable, human resources, and office management. Through additional education and training an Administrative professional can lead to a range of managerial professions. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Administrative Professionals have the potential to earn an average annual salary of $40,000.

  • Proper identification showing eligibility and authorization to work in the United States is required
